Cayamo A Journey Through Song
Miami & Cayamo 2009
Samana DR, St. Thomas USVI, Tortola BVI & Nassau
Friday, March 6 and Saturday March 7
We arrived in Nassau late morning. The waters were actually pretty calm here. We had breakfast near a window in the Garden Cafe and watched the pilot boat drop off the pilot to bring the ship into the port. That little boat was flying over the waves from the wake. Once pier side we were allowed to disembark.
Views from deck
Nassau was pleasant. We originally planned to catch a sightseeing taxi but decided to walk instead. Walked down to the straw market, through town and then way out to Fort Montagu. It took us an hour to walk there. The fort was situated in a park that was in poor repair. Not someplace I would go at night. The fort itself was completed in 1742.
Walked back to the town and had lunch at Senior Frogs. Then back to the straw market for souvenirs. I found some pretty turquoise jewelry, three pieces for $60. A native lady asked me to look at her booth and I purchased wraps from her since she was so pleasant.
View of three cruise ships at port and the pilot boat getting ready to drop off a pilot to take a ship out of the port. The pilot boat follows the ship out to open water to pick the pilot back up.
Re-boarded the Dawn in time to get ready for our 6:00 p.m. show after hanging out on our balcony for a short while watching the boats and yachts cruising by.
Finished up our last night with Patty Griffin, Beth Wood and Darrell Scott.
It was a fine trip. I hope we can go again next year.
Saturday, March 7: Disembarkation and hotel
We scheduled ourselves for the last disembarkation. There were quite a few others that stayed to the last moment on board so there was a lineup to get off. We were in no hurry though as our flight was not scheduled until Sunday. We caught a taxi ride to the Holiday Inn Express, it cost around $35. We had originally planned to ride the Miami Ducks but the cost of a cab to South Beach and back to the hotel would not be worth it. We hung out at the hotel. They were nice enough to let us check in early. Note to self, choose the Day's Inn at North Beach if we do not fly out after the cruise next year.
Sunday, March 8: Flew home first class on Delta. It was a nice flight with comfortable chairs that reclined. Got back to Seattle just as the snow hit.
